Testing the changes

  • I tested the changes in this PR: briefly

[skip ci] [ci skip] [no ci]

see previous ffmpeg8 PR #58253

If someone else test, could you verify if mlt7 picks up libavdevice8 ? It didn't install for me but I assume it may have been due to upgrading from ffmpeg8 branch instead of current repos and manually installing some packages.

========== libmltavformat.so ============
	linux-vdso.so.1 (0x00007f0322790000)
	libmlt-7.so.7 => /usr/lib/libmlt-7.so.7 (0x00007f03226e8000)
	libavcodec.so.62 => /usr/lib/libavcodec.so.62 (0x00007f0320d8f000)
	libavfilter.so.11 => /usr/lib/libavfilter.so.11 (0x00007f032078f000)
	libavdevice.so.62 => not found

New package

Local build testing

  • I built this PR locally for my native architecture, x86_64
  • I built this PR locally for these architectures (if supported. mark crossbuilds):
    • tbd

ffmpeg4

closes #51522

  • cmus - patch for latest git, still waiting for release
  • ssr - use git commit, still waiting for release
  • kodi - use internal ffmpeg6, this is never quick to update and will always lag behind

everything else, including vlc, can build with 8 or 9.

ffmpeg8

could probably get rid of 8 altogether with blender 5.2 and opencv5 #62568

opencv
--------------
blender
---mlt7 (shotcut)
   ---synfig
---retroshare
---siril

libopenshot (opencv5 + update works)
   openshot (opencv5 + update works)

---alsa-plugins (arch has patch)
---calibre (9.14 builds with ffmpeg9)
---gpac (arch has patch)
---ccextractor
---cyanrip
---fooyin (builds with 9)
---gifski (rust crate currently 9.0.0 i think)
---kid3 (builds with 9)
---hedgewars (will need manual patch, maybe 1.0.3 works? --- arch has 1.0.3 patch)
---retroarch
---ssr
---wf-recorder (arch has patch)
---qt5-webengine (can test 9, qt6-pdf works)
